Here are some of the courses Black Crow Bushcraft has offered in the past.  Stay tuned for future course on our HANDS ON TRAINING section on our HOME page.

WINTER:

WINTER BASE CAMP

An extended stay in a winter wilderness scenario requires different skills than a short-term survival situation.  We'll explore considerations when establishing a winter base camp.  Students will have hands-on experiences practicing skills such as

  • Sourcing tinder and kindling during winter

  • Cooking with limited fire resources 

  • In situ bucksaw crafting and safety

  • Axe safety and techniques

  • Wood processing with bucksaw/axe tandem

  • Carving (spoons and kuksas)

  • Regulating core body temperature

  • Gear considerations

  • Tool and clothing repair

FIRST AID:

STOP THE BLEED

In partnership with Angel Trauma Solutions and the Pittsburgh Taka Seigi Bujinkan Dojo, we're pleased to present The Stop the Bleed.  Suitable for adults and young adults, this course teaches basic life-saving interventions, including bleeding control with a tourniquet and with gauze packs or hemostatic agents. Students will be exposed to CAT gen. 7 tourniquet, gauze, and compression bandages.

Additionally HSI Adult/Child CPR AED certification will be part of the seminar.  The training is designed specifically for laypeople and is an excellent choice for both the community and workplace setting. This extremely flexible program will help prepare people to respond to cardiac arrest and choking.

• Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)
• CPR and Defibrillation
• Chain of Survival
• Assessment & Chest Compressions
• Rescue Breathing & Using a CPR Mask
• Using an AED
• Opioid-Associated Emergency
• Relief of Choking

SPRING:

Spring Bushcraft

Spring is one of the most challenging seasons in northeast US.  Humid, wet conditions add considerable difficulty for fire an shelter efforts.  In addition to basic survival skills, the Spring Bushcraft Course will include topics such as:

  • Keeping tinder and kindling dry

  • Fire building on wet ground

  • Sourcing fire materials in a wet environment

  • Moisture and core body temperature control

  • Wind concerns in Spring

  • Purifying water

  • Shelter site selection

  • Keeping food, supplies, and you dry

SKILLS:

10 Things

Join Black Crow Bushcraft for a unique weekend.  Students will be given a survival kit containing only Ten Key Items.  No gear is required.  Food will be provided.  Students need to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for summer conditions.
